Did you know? While summer months can be lots of fun for kids, children living in poverty often lack literacy-rich environments outside of school and have no books at home. Over the summer months without books, low-income children can lose almost two months of reading instruction making it difficult to catch up once school starts in September. At United Way of Passaic, we are partnering with summer meal sites in Paterson and in Passaic and with local libraries to provide students most in need with “Stay Fit. Stay Smart.” Summer bags. These bags will include books, snacks and activities to keep our students fit and smart throughout the summer months.
Join us on Thursday, June 14 to help stuff the bags! United Way of Passaic is hosting our first annual Day of Action to pack 2500 “Stay Fit. Stay Smart.” Bags and we need the community to make this happen!
